A STORY WITHIN A STORY: THAT OF MILAN BERGAMO AIRPORT AND ITS MAGAZINE
Starting from its beginnings up to our days, retracing a long journey through the contents covered in different issues and the developments that have made it a magazine in step with modern times, we relive the history of Milan Bergamo Airport, which in the last 21 years has experienced a significant and exponential growth, continuing to expand the terminal to offer quality services and improve passengers' experience, implementing the offer of destinations and airlines and consolidating its position as one of the leading airports in Italy and Europe.
HISTORICAL MAGAZINES: FIRST EDITION

Published from 2003 to 2005, the first paper edition of Avion Tourism Magazine accompanied the beginnings of the extraordinary development of Milan Bergamo Airport.
The editorial project aimed to pleasantly entertain the passenger while waiting for the flight at the airport and, at the same time, accompany them with service and informative readings during the flight.
On January 6, 2023, Ryanair inaugurated the BGY base, marking a record-breaking year for the airport, which saw 2.844 million passengers pass through its terminal. In 2004, the Airport Development Plan was approved by ministerial decree, outlining new business strategies and a series of internal and external adjustments to the terminal to accommodate the progressive and steady increase in passengers.
The years 2006-2007 are a two-year period that showcases to the passengers the tourist and artistic-cultural beauties of Bergamo and its province, as well as the commencement of airport improvement works.
Meanwhile, between 2008 and 2012, there is a steady growth of the network of scheduled flights extending from Northern and Eastern Europe to the Atlantic and the Black Sea, to North Africa and the Red Sea. Additionally, during this time, the new departure terminal is inaugurated.
HISTORICAL MAGAZINES: THIRD EDITION

In 2013, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the third edition of Avion Tourism Magazine was published, featuring a new editorial director, format, design, content proposal, and distribution strategy.
The continuation of the expansion works, the reconstruction of the runway completed in just 3 weeks in the spring of 2014, the opening of the new Schengen flight departure area with the new commercial area in 2015 and the expansion of the flight network, have transformed the airport into a modern, safe and efficient terminal.
HISTORICAL MAGAZINES: FOURTH EDITION

With the fourth edition, launched with the first issue of 2018, Avion Tourism Magazine has been completely revamped, featuring a new, more manageable format, a modern and appealing graphic design, and an expanded distribution system. In addition to the traditional print edition, the magazine ventures into digital with a new PDF edition, which can be downloaded and accessed for free on all devices.
During the biennium 2018-2019, new initiatives were undertaken aimed at extending the profile of the terminal by increasing its surface area to accommodate a growing number of passengers, thanks to the 140 destinations served. On December 6, 2019, the airport celebrated the passage of its 13 millionth passenger.
HISTORICAL MAGAZINES: FIFTH EDITION

With the fifth edition, Avion Tourism Magazine becomes exclusively digital in 2020, using a new HTML format for its editorial content. The cover graphics remain unchanged, while the structure and layout of the editorial content adapt to the new format, offering passengers a vertical, smoother, and more dynamic reading experience accessible on all devices.
In 2023, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the release of the first issue, Avion Tourism Magazine introduces a new way of accessing content: offline reading, which allows passengers to read the magazine even during flights when no connection is available.
2020 was the year of the global crisis in air transport due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. During the lockdown, the airport maintained the operations of cargo transport and health flights to support the health emergency. The gradual resumption of flights safely allowed the inauguration of the new Extra Schengen area on July 16, 2020, and the celebration of Sacbo's 50th anniversary. Meanwhile, on March 21, 2022, celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the first scheduled flight from Milan Bergamo Airport began. The gradual recovery of air traffic allowed the total number of passengers to exceed 16 million by the end of 2023.
